A non-traditional student is a student who is any of the following:
• An undergraduate over 24 years of age
• Married
• A parent
• Working full-time
• Currently or formerly part of any of the U.S. Armed Forces
• A commuter (travels 10 or more miles to attend classes)
• The caregiver of a dependent elderly person or adult
The Family Resource Center is now offering evening educational seminars geared towards non-traditional students at MSU! Each month there will be a theme with guest presenters to share information and resources with you.

Married Students
Balancing a relationship while in school can be challenging. The following counseling programs are available on MSU’s campus.
Family and Child Clinic- The Family and Child Clinic can help with relationship building, coping with divorce, remarriage adjustment, better family functioning, extended family rapport, coping with life transitions. It can also help you with with premarital issues, marital issues, work and school stress, child behavior problems, parenting concerns, anxiety and depression, loss and grief, childhood trauma and sexual concerns. MSU Psychological Clinic - (517) 355-9564. Location: Psychology Building, Michigan State University. Services for children, adolescents, adults, families, couples and older adults are available. The Psychological Clinic offers psychotherapy, psychological assessments and evaluations, and mood and memory workshops for older adults. Psychotherapy services are confidential, short-term or long-term and available at affordable, income-adjusted rates. Contact for more information.
MSU Psychiatry Clinic - (517) 353-3070. Location: East & West Fee Hall, Michigan State University. Services include adult psychiatry, assessment services for child and adolescents, child and adolescent psychiatry, pervasive development disorders, infant mental health, cognitive behavioral therapy, couples therapy, adult psychotherapy, medical psychology, obesity, geriatric psychiatry, neuropsychology, and eating disorders. Counseling Center – (517) 355-8270. Location: 207 Student Services, Michigan State University. Any student registered for one or more credits is eligible for a consultation appointment. As resources permit, additional services and/or referrals may be provided, free of charge. Counseling services are generally available on an appointment basis. The Counseling Center does not serve children. Please contact for additional information.
