About the Award
The Supervisor Recognition Award was established by FRC in the spring of 2001 to draw attention to MSU supervisors who are highly regarded by their employees for their consistent support of the work/life (professional/personal) needs of their employees. Various academic and support staff units submitted over thirty nominations, in each of the first two years of the award. The nominees and nominators represent a wide variety of departments and position levels.

The winners were selected based on testimony from their employees’ nomination letters. Although all of the nominations were very moving, the winners were selected for their high level of excellence as work/life sensitive leaders. The common traits were their ability to recognize their employees as individuals, and to treat everyone with dignity and respect. These supervisors know that the productivity, quality of work and morale in the department is enhanced because they understand their staffs have lives outside of work. The nominators indicated that longevity and dedicaton in the department, and their loyalty to MSU are a direct result of their supervisors’ positive attitude, integrity, sensitivity, empowering leadership style and sense of humor. They all claim to have the “Best Boss” on campus. All of the nominees received Certificates of Nomination, and letters of congratulations.

The winners were honored with surprise parties in their offices with balloons, cakes and gifts, on National Boss’s Day, October 16, 2001 through 2007. The winners’ departments went out of their way to recognize these positive managers with moving award ceremonies where their family members were also invited.

MSU is proud to have leaders who have “humanized” their work environments with their sensitivity to individuals. Thanks for making State a great place to work!
